Blues Across America - Los Angeles

Since the ‘40s the vital Los Angeles R&B/blues scene has produced such notable music legends as Lowell Fulson, Amos Milburn, T-Bone Walker and Charles Brown to name just a few. The current scene is just as vibrant and is well documented on the latest entry in Cannonball’s successful "Blues Across America" series. "The Los Angeles Scene" showcases new material from seasoned veterans like Joe Houston, Johnny Dyer, and Finis Tasby, as well as upcoming guitar ace Kirk "Eli" Fletcher. You gotta love L.A.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Cannonball’s fifth release in the much-heralded series which features underrecorded, and in some cases underappreciated local blues legends.
  • Joe Houston is one of those early West Coast pioneers who is still making the scene today. Joe has recorded for Aladdin, Dootone and Modern. These three recordings are the latest by Joe and include his signature honking sax and gravelly vocals.
  • Johnny Dyer’s harmonica talents have made him one of the top harp players on the left coast. These new recordings by the dynamic Dyer will demonstrate why he is so revered.
  • Finis Tasby possesses one of the finest voices in Bluesdom. His resume includes working with Z.Z. Hill, Lowell Fulson, Freddie King and Clarence Carter. These new selections allow Finis to show off his great pipes.
  • Whiz-kid Kirk "Eli" Fletcher is at the head of the class of the new breed of "old schoolers." His reputation as the latest guitar hero is spreading quicker than a California brush fire. These recordings are just the tip of an exciting career for Mr. Fletcher.
