Reuben Wilson
Whether it is the soul jazz clubs of Los Angeles or the fabled Harlem nightlife scene of the
'60s and '70s, Reuben Wilson's organ has been a part of it. He recorded for hip labels such as Blue Note, Groove Merchant and Chess. He played with the hottest players of the time, and left behind some of the best music
of that period. Finally, after a long hiatus, we have a new Reuben Wilson album. That is good news because once you hear it you'll surely agree that Reuben Wilson is down with it - or more accurately, still Down With
It.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Wilson is widely regarded as one of the founders of the "acid jazz" movement. Medeski, Martin and Wood credit Wilson's soulful B-3 playing as a major influence on their music.
- Unfazed by fashion, Wilson delivers
a program that's timeless and streetwise, both deep and immediate. It's
classic Wilson, and for B-3 fans, it doesn't get any better.
- Wilson has been rediscovered by a new generation of soul-jazz fans with his earlier Blue Note and Chess releases becoming collector's items within acid-jazz and soul-jazz revivalist
circles.
